Mike de Jong the First Choice for Graham and Anneke Bruce
BURNABY – Graham and Anneke Bruce are the latest BC Liberals to declare that Mike de Jong is their first choice to lead the party.
“Mike de Jong is ready now to lead our party – to lead us in the hard work of taking the fight to the NDP, to lead the critical renewal of the party, and to lead us on the path of reconnecting with British Columbians to earn their support in the next election,” Graham Bruce said. “I have always been impressed with Mike de Jong. When he was handed the tough tasks in government, he delivered results every time. That’s the kind of track record and experience we need now.”
Graham and Anneke Bruce have been key BC Liberal supporters on the South Island since the late 1990s. Graham served as the MLA for the Cowichan area for both the Socreds and the BC Liberals, and was a cabinet minister in governments led by both parties.
“I was there with our party when the coalition was built – and so was Mike de Jong. He has what it takes to keep our party strong, keep it together, and to start winning back support for the next election,” Anneke Bruce said. “Mike de Jong knows every inch of this province – from the Cowichan Valley to the Fraser Valley to the Columbia Valley. He’s my first choice to lead.”
Michael de Jong now has many MLAs, former MLAs, MPs, and community leaders supporting him from around the province (see list below).
The BC Liberal party will hold a leadership convention to announce the new leader on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018.
