Surrey South MLA Stephanie Cadieux backing Mike de Jong
When we pick our next BC Liberal leader, we need someone ready to hold the NDP accountable on Day 1, and we need someone who can get us ready to win the next election.
Mike de Jong is the best candidate to lead this party and this province and ensure a brighter future for everyone.
Working with Mike in cabinet, I saw his passion for helping people get ahead. We all know how hard he worked to deliver five balanced budgets in a row. You might think it’s simply about good fiscal management. You might think he was too tough.
But it’s why I’m supporting Mike. The reason why he worked so hard to protect and strengthen B.C.’s economy – so we could protect and help those most in need. Doing the right thing isn’t always easy or popular, but I saw his passion first hand in my work as Minister of Children and Family Development.
I know he did that so we could launch critical programs like the Single Parent Employment Initiative that I championed to help single parents receiving income or disability assistance get the training they need to get ahead. As Finance Minister he also supported the enhancement of our adoption services so that more children could be placed with loving families.
Simply put, Mike knows that people are the reason we work so hard to protect and strengthen our economy. I know as leader, Mike will ensure BC continues to lead the country.
He’s been a mentor and a friend since I joined the BC Liberal team so today I’m pleased to join Team de Jong alongside MLAs and campaign co-chairs Teresa Wat (Richmond North Centre) and Mike Bernier (Peace River South) and MLAs John Martin (Chilliwack), Simon Gibson (Abbotsford-Mission). Also on the team are former MLAs Pat Bell (Prince George-Mackenzie), Ron Cantelon (Nanaimo-Parksville), Patty Sahota (Burnaby-Edmonds), and Rob Nijjar (Vancouver-Kingsway), former Socred Cabinet Minister and Reform BC Leader Jack Weisgerber, and Fort Nelson Mayor Bill Streeper.
